EV Charger Installation Guide – Step by Step

WiseCar EV Charger Installation Guide

This guide explains how to install WiseCar AC chargers (7.4 kW – 22 kW) at home or at work correctly, safely and in line with applicable standards. Installation must be carried out by a licensed electrician. The full installation takes approximately 2–4 hours.

Minimum requirements: an IEC 61851 compliant charger, earthing, a residual current device (RCD) and a dedicated circuit breaker.

Before You Begin

A WiseCar charger must be installed by a licensed electrician in accordance with current Turkish Standards and IEC 61851. Earthing is mandatory; if your electrical installation has no earthing, it must be added before installation. If you have any questions, call the WiseCar technical team on 444 999 1 or fill in the service request form.

Installation Steps

Step 1: Preparation and Choosing a Location

Choose the installation location: mount the charger where the charging cable can comfortably reach your vehicle's charging port. For outdoor installations, check the charger's IP rating on the product page; in locations exposed to rain or direct sunlight, a protective enclosure is recommended.

  • The mounting surface must be flat and sturdy (concrete, brick or a reinforced panel)
  • Access to the electrical panel is required during installation, along with authority to switch off the main breaker
  • Cable length and cross-section must be calculated (see the table below)

Step 2: Choosing Cable Cross-Section and Length

The right cable cross-section is essential to prevent power loss and overheating. Use the table below:

Power Distance Cable Cross-Section Note
7.4 kW (Single-Phase) 0–20 m 3x6 mm² Typical home
7.4 kW (Single-Phase) 20–50 m 3x10 mm² Medium distance
7.4 kW (Single-Phase) 50–100 m 3x16 mm² Long distance
11 kW (Three-Phase) 0–25 m 5x4 mm² Typical office
22 kW (Three-Phase) 0–25 m 5x6 mm² Typical commercial
22 kW (Three-Phase) 25–50 m 5x10 mm² Medium distance
22 kW (Three-Phase) 50–100 m 5x16 mm² Long distance

Note: For distances over 100 metres, always consult an electrical engineer.

Step 3: Adding a Dedicated Circuit Breaker to the Electrical Panel

A dedicated circuit breaker and a residual current device (RCD) must be added to the electrical panel for the charger. This work must be carried out by a licensed electrician.

  • For 7.4 kW chargers: single-phase, 40A breaker + 30mA RCD
  • For 11 kW chargers: three-phase, 20A breaker + 30mA RCD
  • For 22 kW chargers: three-phase, 40A breaker + 30mA RCD
  • The earth connection must be checked and confirmed

Step 4: Mounting the Charger on the Wall

Fix the mounting plate at the chosen location. Mount the charger 90–120 cm above the ground so the charging cable is easy to connect.

  1. Mark the position of the mounting plate with a pencil
  2. Drill suitable holes in the concrete or brick surface and insert the wall plugs
  3. Secure the plate with screws and check that it is level
  4. Seat the charger on the plate and engage the locking mechanism

Step 5: Connecting the Power Cables

⚠️ Warning: This step must only be carried out by a licensed electrician. Switch off the main breaker before making any connections.

Connect the cables to the terminal block:

  • L1, L2, L3 — Phase conductors (brown, black, grey)
  • N — Neutral conductor (blue)
  • PE — Protective earth conductor (green-yellow)

Check that all connections are tight and in the correct order. Single-phase (7.4 kW) installations use only L1, N and PE.

Step 6: Installing the WiseCar App and Activating the Charger

Once the electrical connection is complete, install the WiseCar mobile app on your iOS or Android device. In the app:

  1. Create an account or sign in
  2. Use "Add Device" to connect your WiseCar charger to your Wi-Fi network
  3. Run a connection test; if the app shows the charger's status, installation is complete
  4. Plug in your vehicle and run a first test charge

Step 7: Inspection and Commissioning

Post-installation checklist:

  • ✅ All connection points are tight and in the correct order
  • ✅ Cable trunking and protective conduit are fitted
  • ✅ The charger is connected to the app and online
  • ✅ The test charge completed successfully
  • ✅ The RCD test button has been tested

Safety Warnings

  • The main breaker must always be switched off during installation
  • Keep the charger out of direct sunlight (overheating protection may activate)
  • Keep children away from the charger; the lock feature can be enabled
  • Use protective conduit or cable trunking along the entire cable route

How Much Does Installation Cost?

The WiseCar Installation Service Package starts from 12,490 TL (October 2026). The final price depends on cable length, the condition of the existing installation and any additional materials required. To arrange a site survey before installation, submit a technical service request.
