What is an electric vehicle charger?
An electric vehicle charger (EVSE) is a device that charges an electric vehicle's battery from the grid. It works with AC or DC technology; most devices used at home and work are AC type and deliver between 3.7 kW and 22 kW. Which device do I need for home EV charging?
For home charging, an AC charger with a Type 2 socket is sufficient. In homes with a single-phase electrical installation, a 7.4 kW (32A, 1-phase) device is suitable. In homes with three-phase installations, 11 kW or 22 kW devices allow much faster charging. The WiseCar WTL series is ideal for home use.
How long does it take to charge an electric vehicle?
A vehicle with a 60 kWh battery charges fully in about 8 hours with a 7.4 kW device, 5.5 hours with 11 kW, and about 3 hours with 22 kW. Since most drivers charge overnight at home, even 7.4 kW is more than enough for daily use.
How much electricity does EV charging use per month?
An average driver covers 1,000–1,500 km per month; at 15–20 kWh per 100 km, this adds about 150–300 kWh of extra electricity consumption per month. Charging on a night tariff can significantly reduce the cost. The WiseCar app automatically suggests the most economical charging hours.
Which vehicles are WiseCar chargers compatible with?
WiseCar chargers are compatible with all electric vehicles that use the Type 2 (IEC 62196-2) standard: Tesla (European models), Volkswagen ID series, BMW i series, Hyundai IONIQ, Kia EV series, Renault Zoe, Fiat 500e, Peugeot e-208, Volvo XC40 Recharge and more.
Is an electrician required for charger installation?
Yes, the charger must be installed by a licensed electrician. A separate fuse and energy meter are recommended. The WiseCar technical service network provides installation support across Turkey; installation is usually completed within 2–4 hours.
What does the WiseCar charger app do?
The WiseCar mobile app lets you start and stop charging remotely, track charging status in real time, get energy consumption and cost reports, manage multiple users, and control your device with voice commands (WiseCar AI). It is free on iOS and Android.
What is the WiseCar AI feature?
WiseCar AI is an AI-powered voice command system. By saying "Hey WiseCar" you can start charging, adjust amperage and request reports. It analyzes your usage habits to suggest the cheapest charging hours. It is available on the WTP3, WTL, WTA and WT3 Smart models.
Can the charger be used outdoors?
Yes. WiseCar outdoor models have an IP54 or higher protection rating; they are resistant to rain, humidity and dust. They can be used safely in areas such as parking lots, garage entrances and gardens.
Is grounding mandatory for the charger?
Yes, grounding is mandatory under the IEC 61851 standard. The charger will not operate without grounding. If your home's installation does not have grounding, you must have it installed before charger installation.
What is the difference between single-phase and three-phase chargers?
Single-phase chargers deliver a maximum of 7.4 kW (230V, 32A). Three-phase devices can deliver 11 kW or 22 kW; they require a three-phase (400V) electrical installation. WiseCar offers both types of device.
What is OCPP and does WiseCar support it?
OCPP (Open Charge Point Protocol) is an open protocol that lets chargers communicate with central management systems. The WiseCar Smart series (WTP3, WTA, WT3 Smart) supports OCPP 1.6J.
What should I consider when buying a charger?
Things to consider: (1) The maximum AC charging power your vehicle supports, (2) The number of phases in your installation, (3) The usage area and IP rating, (4) Cable length, (5) Smart features, (6) CE certification and warranty terms, (7) Authorized service network. How many years of warranty does a WiseCar charger have?
WiseCar chargers come with a 2-year manufacturer warranty. Faults arising from manufacturing defects are repaired free of charge under warranty.
Can an EV charger be installed in an apartment building?
Yes, individual installation can be done in apartment buildings with indoor parking. Under condominium law, the approval of other unit owners may be required. The WiseCar technical team offers dedicated consultancy for apartment installations.
What does the Plug and Charge feature mean?
The Plug and Charge feature lets charging start automatically when you plug the vehicle into the device, without any app or card action.
What should I do if the charger malfunctions?
Check the error code in the WiseCar app. You can create a service request at wisecar.com.tr/pages/teknik-servis-talep. Faults covered by warranty are repaired free of charge.
Can a WiseCar charger be used abroad?
WiseCar chargers operate on 230V/50Hz and 400V/50Hz standards; this standard is valid throughout Turkey and Europe. Thanks to CE certification, they are also suitable for use in EU countries.
