EV Chargers – Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about EV chargers, in one place. We have put together clear answers about the AC chargers WiseCar makes in Türkiye, the installation process, costs, safety standards and smart app features.

What is an EV charger?

An EV charger (EVSE) is a device that charges an electric vehicle's battery from the mains supply. Chargers use either AC or DC technology; most chargers used at home and at work are AC and deliver between 3.7 kW and 22 kW. WiseCar offers CE-certified AC chargers made in Türkiye, with power options from 3.5 kW to 22 kW.

Who makes WiseCar chargers?

WiseCar is a Turkish EV charger brand, designed and manufactured in Türkiye as part of Üstüner Group. With its R&D and design centre in Kayseri, WiseCar serves both domestic and international markets with CE-certified products. It is backed by the experience of Üstüner Group, which has been active in the electrical industry since 1996.

What charger do I need to charge an EV at home?

For home charging, an AC charger with a Type 2 socket is all you need. Homes with a single-phase supply are well suited to a 7.4 kW (32A, single-phase) charger. Homes with a three-phase supply can charge much faster with an 11 kW or 22 kW charger. The WiseCar WTL 7.4 kW single-phase is ideal for single-phase homes, and the WTL 22 kW or WTA for three-phase homes; for charging from a standard household socket, the portable WTP1 (3.5 kW) is also an option.

How long does it take to charge an EV?

A vehicle with a 60 kWh battery charges fully in about 8 hours with a 7.4 kW charger, 5.5 hours with 11 kW, and about 3 hours with 22 kW. Since most drivers charge overnight at home, even 7.4 kW is more than enough for daily use.

How much electricity does EV charging use per month?

The average driver covers 1,000–1,500 km a month; at 15–20 kWh per 100 km, that adds 150–300 kWh to monthly electricity use. Charging on a night-time tariff can reduce the cost significantly. The WiseCar app lets you track your consumption and costs.

Which vehicles are compatible with WiseCar chargers?

WiseCar chargers work with every electric vehicle that uses the Type 2 (IEC 62196-2) standard, including Tesla (European models), the Volkswagen ID series, the BMW i series, Hyundai IONIQ, the Kia EV series, Renault Zoe, Fiat 500e, Peugeot e-208, Volvo XC40 Recharge and many more.

Do I need an electrician to install a charger?

Yes, the charger must be installed by a licensed electrician. A dedicated circuit breaker and energy meter are recommended. The WiseCar technical service network provides installation support across Türkiye, and installation usually takes 2–4 hours. For details, see our installation guide.

What does the WiseCar charger app do?

The WiseCar mobile app lets you start and stop charging remotely, follow charging status in real time, get energy and cost reports, manage multiple users and control your charger by voice (WiseCar AI). The app is free on iOS and Android; additional features are available with a WiseCar Plus membership.

What is WiseCar AI?

WiseCar AI is an AI-powered voice command system. Just say "Hey WiseCar" to start charging, set the current or request a report. It is available on WTP3, WTL and WTA models (including pedestal versions).

Can a charger be used outdoors?

Yes. WiseCar chargers have an ingress protection rating suitable for outdoor use; you can find the rating for each model on its product page. In locations exposed to direct rain or sunlight, an IP65 protective enclosure is recommended.

Is earthing required for a charger?

Yes, earthing is mandatory under the IEC 61851 standard. The charger will not operate without earthing. If your home's electrical installation has no earthing, it must be added before installation.

What is the difference between single-phase and three-phase chargers?

Single-phase chargers deliver up to 7.4 kW (230V, 32A). Three-phase chargers can deliver 11 kW or 22 kW and require a three-phase (400V) electrical supply. WiseCar offers both types.

What is OCPP, and does WiseCar support it?

OCPP (Open Charge Point Protocol) is an open protocol that lets chargers communicate with central management systems. OCPP support varies by model; to find the right model for your business, car park or charging network project, get in touch with us.

What should I look for when buying a charger?

Key things to consider: (1) the maximum AC charging power your vehicle supports, (2) the number of phases in your electrical supply, (3) the installation location and IP rating, (4) cable length, (5) smart features, (6) CE certification and warranty terms, (7) an authorised service network. WiseCar meets all of these criteria.

How long is the warranty on WiseCar chargers?

WiseCar chargers come with a 2-year manufacturer's warranty. Faults caused by manufacturing defects are repaired free of charge under warranty. An annual WiseCar Plus membership extends the warranty by 6 months.

Can an EV charger be installed in an apartment building?

Yes, individual chargers can be installed in apartment buildings with an indoor car park. Under the Turkish Condominium Law, approval from the other flat owners may be required. The WiseCar technical team offers dedicated consultancy for apartment installations.

What does Plug and Charge mean?

With Plug and Charge, charging starts automatically as soon as you plug your vehicle into the charger, with no app or card required.

What should I do if my charger develops a fault?

Check the error code in the WiseCar app. You can then submit the technical service request form or call us on 444 999 1. Faults covered by the warranty are repaired free of charge.

Can WiseCar chargers be used outside Türkiye?

WiseCar chargers operate on 230V/50Hz and 400V/50Hz, the standard supply throughout Türkiye and Europe. CE certification also makes them suitable for use in EU countries.
